"...With the Microplane®, we were happily surprised to discover a tool that you
could plane and rasp with. Imagine a rasping tool that has a large
number of steel points, and rather than ripping, it slices with a multiplicity of
small blades.
The rigid Microplane® has undoubtedly the most classical shape; the more interesting ones are square, round, and half-round. We filed and planed thread wood and end wood and each time the results were perfect. The removed wood was not like sawdust but rather like extremely fine shavings. It is sliced, never torn.
With respect to end wood, the results are similar to wood scissors (for oak). The flexible Microplane® is quite amazing. We had fun planing a round piece of wood and we thought the outcome was more than interesting, and the cut as just as excellent.
Model-makers, sculptors, and woodworkers should find bliss in executing
specific shapes with this tool. It is reasonably priced and if the cut
holds, then this is a great deal.
