Microplane® Tools work better because the teeth are sharp. Perfectly formed cutting teeth are created with our patented photochemical machining process. The teeth on Microplane® Tools are like tiny, freshly sharpened, perfectly adjusted bench planes. They cut quickly and almost effortlessly, leaving the work smooth and ready for sanding. Microplane® Tools are made of stainless steel with a handsome brushed finish instead of heat blackened carbon steel like other sheet metal files, but a Microplane® Tool is much more than just a pretty face. Millions of rasps and Surform® blades have rusted away to uselessness in damp workshops. Our Microplane® Tools resist rust. Naturally, we chose a hard, tough stainless alloy so the teeth will stay sharp for many hours of pleasant woodworking. Microplane® Tools are designed to cut hardwood, softwood, manmade panels (plywood, masonite, particle board, O.S.B., etc.) and other relatively soft materials such as rubber, vinyl, fiberglass, and auto body fillers. They may also be used to shape soft aluminum and copper alloys, but the cutting effort required will be high and the finish will not be very smooth.
